Students scrambled for their seats and waited eagerly for the announcement of what they would be building in a 20-minute time frame. Over 30 K-12 students from the Roanoke Valley and surrounding areas joined us for our very first Minecraft EDU build challenge event held during the Roanoke Mini MakerFaire at the Science Museum of Western Virginia on February 17, 2019. This was a wonderful chance for Roanoke County Public Schools to showcase the game based learning tool that has brought a lot of engagement to our K-12 classrooms over the past year and a half.

During the event we held six build challenges, each lasting only 20-minutes. Each of the six challenges were inspired by the Classroom Build Challenges resource that Minecraft EDU provides to help strengthen 21st Century Skills in the classroom.
